According to a release, Ferguson was patrolling the area of Hazelwood Drive on Easter Sunday when she heard the cries for help of a mother whose baby stopped breathing.
“I believe God put me in the right place at the right time to actually save this life,” Officer Ferguson said.
The mother had been giving her infant daughter a bath when she stepped out of the room for a minute to grab the child’s clothes. When she returned, her baby was not breathing. She reportedly ran out the home yelling, “Help my baby, help my baby!”
Officer Ferguson placed the infant on top of the trunk of her police car and began CPR until the child began breathing again.
The baby was then transported by EMS to MUSC for treatment.
